MADISON, WI – After weeks of uncertainty and Republican disarray concerning the state budget, Senate Democrats came to the negotiating table on behalf of the people of Wisconsin. Later today, the Joint Finance Committee will be taking action on the preliminary bipartisan compromise reached by members of Legislative Leadership and Governor Evers.

Senator Habush Sinykin released the following statement:

“This budget cycle, Republicans showed themselves unable to negotiate a state budget within their own caucuses and were set to deliver another round of harsh cuts to the University of Wisconsin, our public schools, and our state’s child care industry. Fortunately, Senate Democrats have been at the negotiating table over the past week, fighting for Wisconsin’s future, intent on a budget that will invest in the well being of our children, the financial security of our families, and the safety of our communities.

“This budget is not perfect, but it reflects both bipartisanship and progress, and I am proud to see it move forward.

“What we are seeing playing out in this budget is the consequence of Wisconsin’s new fairer maps—legislators working together to find compromise and make meaningful progress for the people of Wisconsin.”
