Senator Agard Statement on the Investiture of Justice Janet Protasiewicz

MADISON – Today, Judge Janet will be sworn in and become Justice Protasiewicz, flipping the ideological balance of the Wisconsin Supreme Court for the first time in 15 years. State Senator Melissa Agard (D-Madison), Senate Democratic Leader, released the following statement:

“By electing Judge Protasiewicz in April, the people of Wisconsin made the choice to reinstate fairness to our state’s highest court, defend our democracy, and protect individual liberties and freedoms.

“For the first time since 2008, the ideological balance of the Wisconsin Supreme Court has flipped and it could not have occurred at a more critical time. With issues like abortion, union rights, redistricting, and voting protections expected to be taken up by this court, the people of Wisconsin can be reassured that common sense, sanity, and balance have been restored to the body.

“I eagerly await Justice Protasiewicz’ valuable contributions to the court!”
