Senate Democratic Leader Dianne Hesselbein Reacts to Wisconsin Supreme Court Ruling that Wisconsin’s Legislative Maps are Unconstitutional

MADISON, Wis. – Today, the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled that the district lines that the Wisconsin State Legislature is currently governing under are unconstitutional. Senator Hesselbein released the following statement:

“Today, the Wisconsin Supreme Court affirmed what the majority of Wisconsinites already know: the state’s gerrymandered, highly-partisan legislative maps are unconstitutional.

“We’ve known for years that Wisconsin is among, if not the most, gerrymandered state legislature in our nation, allowing Republicans and their unconstitutional gerrymander to ignore the voices of the majority. The time has finally come for that to change, once and for all.

“The Supreme Court also outlined steps to ensure that fair and constitutional maps are implemented before the next election cycle. Unfortunately, we know that no entity in the state is less credible in the redistricting process than Speaker Vos and legislative Republicans.”
