Saturday: Food trucks will return to W. Capitol Dr.
Following a brief hiatus, food and vendor trucks will make a comeback to W. Capitol Dr. on Saturday, June 15. This return will be carefully managed to minimize congestion and inconvenience for local brick-and-mortar businesses, while enhancing accountability.
Alderman Lamont Westmoreland expressed his enthusiasm for the return of the food trucks and vendors, stating, “I am very pleased to have the food trucks and vendors return, as they are a staple of local small business in Milwaukee. Permanent assigned spaces and operating requirements should create a safer, cleaner, and stronger business environment for all.”The designated area, known as the Capitol Drive Density-Limited Zone, extends along W. Capitol Dr. from N. 76th St. westward to the city limits at Mayfair Rd.
Alderman Westmoreland emphasized that the zone was designed to ensure safety, structure, and minimal disruption to brick-and-mortar businesses. “This will also benefit the operators, as they won’t have to compete for spaces, allowing them to grow their businesses with a consistent, dedicated spot,” he explained.
By assigning each food truck a permanent location, it will be easier to hold operators accountable for maintaining cleanliness and addressing issues such as litter and grease spills during and after their operating hours.
Alderman Westmoreland is also developing a tool to permanently remove operators from their designated spots if they become nuisances or fail to keep their spaces clean.“I encourage residents to reach out to my office with any complaints regarding nuisance operators, increased litter, or other issues affecting the area’s quality of life. Photos accompanying complaints would be appreciated,” he added.
