Roys: In Taylor, Wisconsinites Choose Proven Fighter for Freedom

By - Apr 7th, 2026 09:10 pm

MADISON – Justice-elect Chris Taylor defeated Maria Lazar in a race for the Wisconsin Supreme Court on Tuesday night, a victory that signals how unpopular anti-choice, far-right ideas are in the state when directly confronted. Taylor, a champion for reproductive freedom and worker’s rights, ran her race on similar themes to those Sen. Kelda Roys is championing in the 2026 Wisconsin governor’s race.

After Justice Taylor’s historic win, Sen. Kelda Roys released the following statement:

“Congratulations to Justice-elect Chris Taylor! She has built her career fighting for Wisconsinites to have the freedom to build a better life. Chris’ landslide win shows that Wisconsin is eager to elect experienced, tough, smart women who tell it like it is, to statewide office.

“Having known Chris for nearly 25 years, as a friend and colleague in the reproductive rights movement and the legislature, as a fellow attorney and mom, I know Wisconsinites made the right choice and will be well served by having her on our Supreme Court.”

About Sen. Kelda Roys

A lifelong Wisconsinite, born in Marshfield and who spent her early years in rural Taylor County, Kelda is running for governor because she knows Wisconsin can be a place of opportunity and fairness – but right now we’re in the fight of our lives for our democracy and our kids’ future.

For 25 years, Kelda has been a changemaker. She has fought for Wisconsin as a state senator, small business owner, attorney, champion for women’s rights, and mom/stepmom of five. She has spent her life putting people first – fighting for a stronger Wisconsin and never quitting on tough problems until they’re solved, including expanding health care, defending our rights and freedoms, and fighting to make life more affordable for Wisconsin families.

As our Governor, Kelda will be relentlessly focused on building a Wisconsin where everyone has the freedom to thrive.
