Milwaukee, WI. –  We are proud to welcome Ricardo Wynn to our Board of Directors, effective January 15, 2025. In this new role, Ricardo will oversee Team and Talent Development, including board training, development, and governance, while supporting and guiding overall nonprofit transformation.

Over the past 18 months, Ricardo has served as a Community Advisor and Board Consultant to the History Project. Last summer, Ricardo chaired a community-driven collaboration to honor the Black Nite Brawl with Wisconsin’s first LGBTQ historic marker, while leading ongoing community outreach, listening, and engagement sessions for the organization.

Ricardo Wynn is a dedicated advocate for health equity and LGBTQ rights, with a particular focus on uplifting the voices of Black, Brown, and other marginalized communities. With deep roots in the House and Ballroom scene, Ricardo is committed to addressing systemic inequities in healthcare and society, ensuring culturally affirming support for LGBTQ individuals, especially those navigating intersecting challenges related to race, gender identity, and sexuality.

A passionate supporter of preserving LGBTQ history in Wisconsin, Ricardo emphasizes the critical importance of documenting this history through a Black and Brown cultural lens. They believe that centering the contributions, stories, and resilience of communities of color is essential to understanding the full scope of LGBTQ experiences and creating a future informed by this rich heritage.

In their work with the House and Ballroom community, Ricardo collaborates with leaders and organizations to spotlight its cultural significance and address pressing issues such as access to healthcare, housing stability, and mental health resources. Through a combination of grassroots advocacy, education, and policy reform, Ricardo strives to create spaces where LGBTQ individuals, particularly those in Black and Brown communities, can thrive.

By bridging health equity initiatives with a commitment to historical preservation and cultural celebration, Ricardo envisions a world where every individual is empowered to live authentically, with access to the resources and recognition they deserve.

“We have nothing but the greatest gratitude for Ricardo, who has contributed greatly to our mission, purpose, and impact throughout 2024,” said Michail Takach, chair of the Wisconsin LGBTQ History Project.

“With Ricardo on our leadership team, we will pursue the next 30 years of our non-profit organization with passion and purpose. We will evolve our programs, services, and priorities for an ever-changing Wisconsin, while building a more inclusive and equitable future for us all. Together, we are truly unstoppable.”

The Wisconsin LGBTQ History Project has been an all-volunteer organization since 1994. The current Board of Directors includes Bjorn Nasett, Diane Gregory, Nicole Kurth, Ricardo Wynn, and Michail Takach.
