Republicans Aim to Prolong Pandemic and Slow Down Distribution of Federal Funds

MADISON – Today, the Wisconsin State Assembly met in regular session, and took action on several Republican-led bills that will likely make Wisconsin’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic more difficult and take longer. Representative Dianne Hesselbein (D-Middleton) released the following statement:

“Today, my Republican colleagues complained they don’t have enough input in how federal funds are spent in Wisconsin. This is a prime example of Republican hypocrisy as they continue to hold federal funding hostage for a BadgerCare expansion that would provide Wisconsin over $1 billion in incentives and $634 million in savings.

“Governor Evers provided swift and effective disbursement of federal aid during this pandemic to small businesses, health care workers, child care, broadband, and more. If the Republican majority was in charge of distributing relief money, Wisconsinites would still be waiting. My message to the legislators in the majority party is simple: If you want to be governor you should run for it.”
