Republican Lawmakers’ Prioritize Culture Wars Over Problem Solving in Assembly Session

Madison–The Assembly was in session today after summer recess. Rather than working on solving the real problems facing Wisconsin’s working families, legislative Republicans chose to instead focus on divisive culture wars. Rep. Robyn Vining (D-Wauwatosa) released the following statement:

“Wisconsinites deserve a state legislature that works for them. While Wisconsinites struggle to afford groceries, healthcare, and childcare and face increasing property taxes, legislative Republicans have decided to dedicate our first Assembly session after “summer break” to divisive culture issues. Dictating which flags can be flown, making state employees return to their offices in Madison, and prohibiting healthcare funding for vulnerable populations does nothing to solve the issues facing Wisconsinites.

Republican lawmakers have shown that they have no plan to strengthen public schools, improve the cost of living, provide better healthcare access, invest in childcare, or address many of the challenges facing our state.

Democrats are focused on helping working families in Wisconsin. Republicans are focused on culture wars. It is time for Republican lawmakers to join us in working on legislation that supports the needs of Wisconsinites so we can move forward, together.”

Rep. Vining represents the 13th Assembly District, which includes Elm Grove, and parts of Wauwatosa and Brookfield. For more information visit Rep. Vining’s website here.
