Republican County Sheriffs Defending Brad Schimel on Rape Kit Backlog Have Backlog of Over 630 Rape Kits
Washington DC-Based Group Taps People Who Are Part of the Problem to Defend Brad Schimel on Rape Kit Backlog
MADISON, Wis. — The Washington DC-based Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA) has announced an ad buy to try to defend Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel’s mishandling of a backlog of untested rape kits in Wisconsin. But One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross noted that the individuals featured in the ad are part of the problem as the two Sheriffs have over 630 untested kits between them.
“By any objective measure, Brad Schimel has bungled the testing of rape kits in Wisconsin. Years later and after getting millions of dollars to fix the problem, thousands of kits still remain untested on his watch,” said Ross. “And a Washington DC special interest group trotting out partisan defenders, who between them have over 630 untested kits, doesn’t change the facts.”
According to media reports, the Republican Attorneys General Association has placed a “five figure” ad buy featuring the Republican Sheriffs from Brown and Eau Claire counties defending Schimel’s handling of the rape kit backlog. Brown and Eau Claire Counties account for 636 untested kits, according to figures included in a recent media report.

This is incredibly sleazy. The backlog is a fact. It’s not in question. Defending him for working hard on this when the backlog proves he hasn’t is sick.
