Representative Ryan Clancy Supports New Protections for Immigrants and Refugees in Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. — Today, Wisconsin legislators rallied round a proposal to prevent government employees, including law enforcement officers, from aiding in the attempted detention of immigrants and refugees, a threat now looming over communities in Wisconsin. Supporters expressed the clear need to stand with our immigrant neighbors in the face of increasingly aggressive behavior from ICE and other immigration enforcement agencies, now under the direction of President Trump.

Rep. Clancy issued the following statement:

“It’s now clear that the Trump Administration seeks to punish immigrants, refugees, asylees and their families, and to break apart our community however he can. Thankfully, organizers and advocates like Voces de la Frontera, Milwaukee Turners and many more have established networks of information and resources we need to keep each other safe.

But we also need responsible, principled allies in positions of power to do the right thing, even when it’s risky — from municipalities across Wisconsin, to here in the legislature, to the executive branch. We will not stop pushing until we’re safe from authoritarianism and hatred.”
