Rep. Stubbs Statement on 2021 State of the State
MADISON – Last night, Governor Evers spoke to the people of Wisconsin in the first virtual State of the State Address. Upon this address, Representative Stubbs (D-77) released the following statement:
“Last night Governor Evers renewed his commitment to a Wisconsin that works for every Wisconsinite. In his address he prioritized his commitment to education, noting that this last year his administration added $330 million in general school aids, and a $97 million increase in special education funding. In addition, his plans to expand internet access across our state, will make the necessity of virtual learning a reality for many Wisconsinites. I am excited to continue working with Governor Evers, and his effort to create a stronger and more equitable public education system.”
“Governor Evers also emphasized the need for fair electoral maps to be drawn based on the latest Census. It is vital to our democracy that the people choose their politicians, and not the other way around. I am glad to see that the People’s maps, as drawn by the non-partisan People’s Maps Commission, will be included in the Governor’s budget proposal.”
“Wisconsin faced an unprecedented year in 2020, and 2021 must be a year of rebuilding a better tomorrow. We must remain committed to a more equitable Wisconsin, and work towards ending the racial disparities in our state. With hard work and compromise, we will continue to move Wisconsin forward”
