Rep. Rodriguez: Authors Legislation to Create Statewide Mask Order

MADISON – Today, Wisconsin Democrats introduced a bill that would create a new statewide mask order for the remainder of the pandemic. The proposed statewide mask order would be in effect until the conclusion of the national emergency declared by the President of the United States in response to COVID-19. Rep Sara Rodriguez (D-Brookfield) issued the following statement:

“It is appalling that Wisconsin Republicans have overturned Governor Evers’ statewide mask order. In my experience as a nurse and Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer with the CDC, I know how effective wearing a mask can be in preventing the spread of a virus like COVID-19. The science on masks is settled.

“Without immediate action, our state faces a difficult recovery, both from a public health perspective and an economic one. Masks protect lives. Masks protect livelihoods.  That’s why I am proud to author legislation to create a statewide mask order for the duration of the COVID-19 national emergency. I urge my Republican colleagues to join me in supporting this critical public health legislation so we can continue fighting the spread of this deadly virus.

This pandemic isn’t over just because we want it to be over. Mask up, Wisconsin.”
