Rep. Robyn Vining Comments on Lame Duck Court Ruling

"The court’s ruling today is a win for democracy and the people of Wisconsin."

MADISON – Today, Dane County Circuit Judge Richard Niess ruled to block the lame duck legislation that limited the powers of Governor Tony Evers and Attorney General Josh Kaul. Representative Robyn Vining (D-Wauwatosa) issued the following statement in response:

“The court’s ruling today is a win for democracy and the people of Wisconsin.

The Republican majority used an unlawful process to accumulate more power for themselves and override the will of the people.

The lame duck session, in the wake of the loss of all statewide offices, was an attempt to consolidate more power in the hands of the remaining Republican politicians.

Thankfully, we have a system of checks and balances.

Checks and balances exist for situations like this, to prevent the abuse of power by politicians.

It’s time to put this disappointing chapter behind us so we can move forward together and put the needs of the people of Wisconsin first.

Let’s return to the fresh start Wisconsin voted for. Forward together.”
