MADISON- Today, State Representative Mark Spreitzer (D-Beloit) released the following statement regarding the Legislative Republicans’ decision to hire private attorneys to defend their unconstitutional legislative maps:
“First Republicans rigged the maps to take away Wisconsinite’s choice of representation. Now they want to waste tax dollars defending those rigged maps in court. Clearly, Republicans will stop at nothing to secure their grip on power.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice is already using tax payer dollars to defend the unconstitutional maps, so it appears that Legislative Republicans want to double charge taxpayers by hiring even more attorneys. Do they not trust the Wisconsin DOJ and Attorney General Schimel to do an adequate job?
I will fight to ensure that Republican legislators do not waste taxpayer money meant for public schools, tech colleges & UW to pay private law firms to defend their unconstitutional actions.”
