MADISON – Today, the Assembly met in person to vote on 2021 Assembly Bill 1. Assembly Democratic Leader Gordon Hintz (D-Oshkosh) issued the following statement:

“For eight months, Wisconsin Republicans ignored the public’s calls for state legislative action in the fight against one of the most contagious viruses our world has seen in one hundred years. Rather than offering actions that could help support the people of Wisconsin in a time of crisis, Republicans went to court to stop Governor Evers’ public health response and exacerbated an already dangerous situation,” said Rep. Hintz. “And today’s action is a political exercise that again, will result in absolutely nothing for the people of Wisconsin.”

“As state leaders, we need to respond to the urgency of the COVID-19 pandemic by coming together, listening to our constituents and health leaders, and finding common ground so we can move forward as a state. I was proud to vote for Assembly Democrats’ amendment, which would continue funding Wisconsin’s public health response and support Wisconsin families who are struggling to make ends meet because of COVID-19. We need to come together and put the people of Wisconsin first with meaningful solutions.”
