Rep. Goyke & State Assembly to Honor Hometown Hero Irena Ivic
"On Thursday we honor a mother, neighbor, and public servant who came to the rescue of a child in danger."
MADISON— The Wisconsin State Assembly will recognize Irena Ivic as a “Hometown Hero” at its upcoming legislative session on Thursday, November 7th. Ms. Ivic, who serves as a bus driver for the Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS), is being honored by Rep. Goyke and the State Assembly for saving the life of a young child on December 22, 2018.
While driving her route near 4th and Mitchell in Milwaukee, Ms. Ivic spotted a child wandering alone on the freeway overpass. The child, less than one year old at the time, was found barefoot wearing only minimal clothing – completely exposed to the cold temperatures. First responders say, if it weren’t for Ms. Ivic’s vigilance and compassion, the situation could have had a very different outcome.
“On Thursday we honor a mother, neighbor, and public servant who came to the rescue of a child in danger. We are forever grateful for her actions,” said Rep. Goyke. “Ms. Ivic and her fellow MCTS drivers continue to serve our community and have been credited multiple times in recent years with saving the lives of children. Thank you for your service and commitment to protecting our community.”
Ms. Ivic will be honored by Rep. Goyke and legislators when the Assembly convenes at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.
