Rejoice: It’s Merry Mulch time again in the Garden District!

The Garden District Neighborhood Association, Alderman Scott Spiker, the City of Milwaukee, and the Department of Public Works are again hosting a Christmas tree mulching event this Saturday, January 10, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at S. 6th St. and W. Norwich Ave. (just south of W. Howard Ave.).

The event — to help keep Christmas trees out of the landfill by converting them into mulch (by city crews) for gardens — will again be held in the Garden District Farmers Market parking lot located at S. 6th and Norwich, across from the Robert Anderson Municipal Building, 4001 S. 6th St.

“I strongly encourage neighbors to take advantage of this great program and to ‘go sustainable’ and help reduce the number of trees that will go to the landfill by taking their trees to the Garden District ‘Mulch-O-Rama’ on Saturday instead,” Alderman Spiker said, noting that DPW Forestry staff will assist with the mulching during the event.

Trees should not be wrapped and all decorations and ornaments should be removed before being dropped off. NOTE: If you are unable to drop off during Saturday’s event, please drop your tree off in the designated fenced in area (in the farmers market lot) before Saturday.
