Recognizing the importance of Latinos and immigrants to our society
“As Legislative Republicans move forward with cynical anti-immigrant legislation stigmatizing thousands of our neighbors because of their race, they further clarify that the GOP takes pride in their dismal approval numbers among non-whites.”
MADISON – Rep. David Bowen (D-Milwaukee) released the following statement today – “A Day without Latinos and Immigrants” – on the importance of Latinos and all immigrants to Wisconsin.
“As Legislative Republicans move forward with cynical anti-immigrant legislation stigmatizing thousands of our neighbors because of their race, they further clarify that the GOP takes pride in their dismal approval numbers among non-whites.
“I am proud to stand with our Latino brothers and sisters, and all immigrants, as they highlight the vital impact they have on our culture, our economy, and many of the things each and every one of us take for granted on a daily basis. While consumers throughout the state may experience a day without the important presence of Latinos, Republican legislators have the valuable opportunity to spend a day with Latinos, who will be overwhelmingly subject to unfair treatment by police and other government officials because of legislation they are pushing through.
“They should not take this opportunity lightly. I encourage my Republican colleagues to take a moment today to stop and listen to the concerns of Latinos and immigrants that have gathered to express their Constitutional rights, and then explain to those Wisconsinites why they don’t believe they deserve the same rights as the rest of us.”
