Recognition at UNCF Mayor’s Masked Ball a deep honor

Statement of Alderman Mark Chambers, Jr. March 31, 2025

By - Mar 31st, 2025 03:04 pm

On Saturday, March 29, I had the privilege of being recognized as an honoree during the 10th annual Mayor’s Masked Ball. This event, hosted in conjunction with the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), seeks to support local students in the community who will attend college, as well as historically Black colleges and universities supported by UNCF.

Being recognized at this event as a “Milwaukee Mastermind” was a true honor. But I must also give my gratitude to the other honorees, (individuals and organizations) as well as all those who donated to support this worthwhile cause. The Mayor’s Masked Ball has brought in over $1.3 million in scholarship funds over the last decade to support students who otherwise might struggle to receive support for their higher education journey.

It is always such a warming experience to see the support events like this can bring. It shows that as a community when we coalesce behind an issue or cause, we can accomplish anything.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks and congratulations to the UNCF for their continued work, to the Mayor for this recognition, to all of the other amazing honorees, and in particular, to the young people who will receive these scholarships. It’s a shining example that their hard work and effort is seen by the leaders of our city.
