Public invited to help decorate towering Bronzeville wood letters as part of Bronzeville Week art project
The huge wood letters that spell out B-R-O-N-Z-E-V-I-L-L-E are in place along W. North Ave. (near N. 5th St.), and the public will once again have the chance to decorate them during the Bronzeville Cultural & Arts Festival taking place on Sunday, August 3 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs said today.
The huge letters are works of art paying homage to the rich history of artists who have lived and worked in Bronzeville, and artist Adjua Nsoroma will begin painting parts of the letters starting on Thursday, July 31. As part of the festival on Sunday, August 3, residents will have a chance to participate in decorating the wood letters. The art project is sponsored by the Milwaukee Bucks.
“Every August we engage the community in a positive collective art project – the Bronzeville letters,” Alderwoman Coggs said. “I love that they are once again overlooking the intersection of 5th and North, and I invite residents and families to take part in a major public art project where having fun is infectious, and previous experience in creating art is not required.”
The 15th annual Bronzeville Week will run from August 2 – 9. To view the full schedule of events, please visit the Bronzeville Week Facebook page.
