Madison, Wis. – Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin (PPAWI) has added staff to bolster electoral organizing efforts for the 2024 election.

“The new, non-gerrymandered legislative maps have created the opportunity to elect legislative candidates that will protect and expand reproductive rights in Wisconsin,” said Steven Webb II, Executive Director of PPAWI. “We know that reproductive freedom and the right to abortion is overwhelmingly supported by Wisconsinites and it’s past time having a legislature that reflects that.”

In September 2023,  Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin (PPWI) restored access to abortion care after a Dane County Circuit Court Judge ruled the 1849 law does not apply to consensual abortions and is not enforceable. In February this year, PPWI filed an original action asking the Wisconsin Supreme Court to find that the Wisconsin Constitution guarantees the right to bodily autonomy, including the right to abortion care. The added organizing capacity by PPAWI in this important election year in Wisconsin continues the work of expanding reproductive rights and health care for Wisconsinites across the state.

Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin employs a year-round organizing team of 11 people in Madison, Milwaukee, Racine/Kenosha, Fox Valley, and La Crosse.

Five additional organizers have been hired to expand the critical work happening in La Crosse, Eau Claire, Green Bay, Fox Valley, and in Milwaukee.

PPAWI also runs the year-round Raiz program that is led by Latinx organizers and Latinx organizing teams within the Latinx communities in Wisconsin.

The Black Organizing Program is also active at PPAWI, led by Black organizers in partnership and coalition with Black leaders and Black organizations across Wisconsin.

The organizing programs at PPAWI have been and will continue to engage with voters through canvasses, community events, and in online spaces.

“I am excited to welcome more organizers to our team and more excited for the positive impact our programs will have on protecting and expanding reproductive rights in Wisconsin,” said Webb.
