Oak Creek Community Members Call on the Wisconsin State Legislature to Pass a Strong Education Budget

By - May 9th, 2025 12:13 pm

Oak Creek, Wis. — Democratic members of the Wisconsin State Legislature heard from educators, parents, and community members in Oak Creek about the importance of strong investments in our public schools.

Voters in the Oak Creek-Franklin School District have approved their last two referendums—helping to make sure their students have the facilities and resources they need to succeed. However, school districts in neighboring communities and across Wisconsin have not fared as well—a majority of the largest school referenda on the ballot on April 1, 2025 failed.

After the event, Rep. Chris Sinicki (D-Milwaukee), Sen. Chris Larson (D-Milwaukee), released the following statement:

Rep. Chis Sinicki:
“Teachers, parents, and staff made it abundantly clear last night: Wisconsin must pass a strong biennial budget that invests in our public schools and helps students succeed,” said Rep. Chris Sinicki. “Without a budget that supports our schools, teachers won’t have access to critical support, administrators will be forced to do more with less, and our students’ success will be in jeopardy. We cannot let that happen—we must pass a budget for our kids.”

Sen. Chris Larson:
“We have a responsibility to make sure that every student in Wisconsin gets a great education—and that starts with enacting a strong biennial budget that invests in our schools and communities,” said Sen. Chris Larson. “It’s not fair to ask communities, like Oak Creek, to continually go to referendum for critical funding. It’s time to end the cycle and properly fund our public schools.”
