The No. 5/4 Marquette University men’s basketball team (8-1, 0-0 BIG EAST) dropped an 81-70 decision at No. 6/5 Iowa State (6-1, 0-0 Big 12) on Thursday night in Hilton Coliseum in the Big 12-BIG EAST Battle.

Freshman forward Royce Parham finished with a career-high 17 points and four MU players reached double figures in points. Senior Kam Jones chipped in 14 points, nine assists and eight rebounds.

After trailing by double figures for a majority of the first portion of the second half, the Golden Eagles used a 10-0 run to tie the score at 61-61 with 9:06 left on a layup by Jones. ISU, however, responded with a 14-0 run of its own and was able to hold off Marquette for the victory.

Marquette trailed 46-37 at the intermission after allowing ISU to shoot 64.3 percent from the floor. Freshman Damarius Owens led the way offensively with nine points, knocking down all three of his 3-point attempts. MU, however, shot just 44.1 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.
