MILWAUKEE (January 14, 2025) – An earlier run has been announced for Acacia’s upcoming production, A Sleep of Prisoners by Christopher Fry. The show will open on March 7th and close on March 23rd.

Four prisoners of war are locked in a church in enemy territory. Deprived of food, water, rest and distractions, each man is drawn more deeply to his own struggles and those of his cellmates. Reality dissolves into a dream where the men play figures from the Bible in a story of obedience, rebellion, violence and peace that the Journal of the English Association calls “One of the most interesting examples of contemporary religious drama.”

Elaine Wyler returns to the helm following her “astute direction” (Shepherd Express) of Acacia’s The House by the Stable. David Sapiro, known for performances “rich [with] emotional nuance” (Shepherd Express), emerges from a six-year hiatus to play one of the prisoners. Joining him is Jason Will, a frequent sight on the Acacia stage for the past four years, last celebrated for his “funny” interpretation of the “socially inept” Arthur De Bourgh (Shepherd Express). The ensemble also features Kerruan Sheppard, acclaimed for his “accessible [and] animated” (Shepherd Express) rendition of Jesus in Acacia’s Acts of Peace. Completing the cast is A.J. Magoon, recently praised for his “top-notch” (Shepherd Express) portrayal in Acacia’s Last Train to Nibroc.
