#MUBB Hosts Georgetown Wednesday In BIG EAST Lidlifter

The Marquette University men’s basketball team (5-6, 0-0 BIG EAST) opens its 21st season of BIG EAST Conference competition Wednesday night when the squad hosts Georgetown (7-3, 0-0 Big East) in the league lidlifter. FS1 features the national television broadcast, with Connor Onion (play-by-play) and Steve Smith (analyst) calling the action. Following Wednesday’s outing, the Golden Eagles will travel to Creighton on Dec. 20 before scattering across the country to spend the holidays with friends and family.

Marquette Opens 21st Campaign In BIG EAST

Marquette, which joined the BIG EAST Conference in 2005-06, opens its 21st campaign in the league on Wednesday night when the team faces Georgetown at Fiserv Forum.

Since entering the league, the Golden Eagles have collected a winning record on 13 occasions and finished with a .500 mark three times. MU claimed a share of the regular season title in 2012-13 and the outright championship, along with tournament trophy, in 2022-23.

In 20 years of BIG EAST action, the Golden Eagles have compiled an overall record of 214-150 (.588). In league action the last three regular seasons, only two-time national champion UConn (45) has won more BIG EAST games than MU (44).

Marquette Owns Advantage In All-Time Series

Marquette owns a 25-14 advantage in the all-time series, with the Golden Eagles claiming wins in 15 of the last 18 outings and each of the last eight games.

All but two of the series matchups have come since Marquette joined the BIG EAST in 2005-06.

The programs first met during the 1941-42 campaign and the Hoyas were able to claim a 35-34 victory. The next meeting didn’t come until the 1971-72 season and Marquette posted an 88-44 winning decision.

The Golden Eagles swept the home-and-home series in 2024-25, most recently claiming a 76-61 win on March 1, 2025 on the road. All five starters finished with double figures in points, including returnees Ben Gold (15) and Chase Ross (12).

Parham Provides Bench Scoring Boost

Sophomore forward Royce Parham, a member of the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team in 2024-25, reached double figures in scoring for the third time in the last four outings with a personal-best effort at No. 6/6 Purdue on Saturday.

The Pittsburgh native finished with a career-high 19 points, including a 3-of-6 effort from behind the 3-point line, and also chipped in three rebounds in 27 minutes of action as a reserve. He netted 10 points at Wisconsin on Dec. 6 and has scored 10-or-more points in back-to-back games twice in 2025-26.

Parham, who reached double figures in points in four games all of last season, has now reached that mark five times in non-conference play. His previous career-best total was a 17-point effort at Iowa State on Dec. 4, 2024.

Ross Moving Up Career Ranks

Senior Chase Ross has played in nearly 115 games for the Golden Eagles and as a result is moving up the career ranks in a couple of categories.

The Dallas native is on pace to become the program’s 55th 1,000-point scorer (926) and his next steal will move him into the program’s top-10 list along with former standout Aaron Hutchins (165).

Through games of Dec. 14, Ross is ranked tied for second in the BIG EAST in steals per game (2.00) and has five outings with three-or-more thefts.
