#MUBB Claims 78-56 Victory at Providence in Road Finale
Stevens nets season-high 21 points, James Jr. scores 20 for 10th time
The Marquette University men’s basketball team (11-19, 6-13 BIG EAST) continued conference play with a 78-56 win at Providence (14-16, 7-12 BIG EAST) on Wednesday night at Amica Mutual Pavilion.
Marquette led by as many as 18 points in the first half and 37-23 at the intermission after shooting 46.7 percent from the floor and holding the Friars to just 27.3 percent and forcing 13 steals (led to 20 points). The Golden Eagles used a 14-1 run to build a 28-10 advantage, holding the Friars scoreless for nearly six minutes.
MU continued its momentum at both ends of the court as the second half progressed, extending the lead to as many as 27 points with 10:38 to go in regulation. As good as Marquette’s offense was, the team’s defense held PC to just 30.9 percent from the floor for the game, while scoring 29 points off 19 Friar miscues.
UP NEXT: The Golden Eagles wrap up the regular season on Saturday, March 7 when the team hosts No. 4/4 UConn at 11:30 a.m. CT on Senior Day. Marquette will honor Ben Gold, Jonah Lucas, Casey O’Malley and Chase Ross in a pregame ceremony (begins at 11 a.m.).
