By - May 16th, 2024 11:05 pm

(MILWAUKEE, WI) –  On Thursday, May 16, 2024, Milwaukee Public Schools received notice from the Administration of Children and Families (ACF) that federal financial assistance for the district’s Head Start program will be suspended for 30 days, effective May 21, 2024. MPS’ Head Start grant was approved through May 30, 2024.This will not have any impact on staff, students, or families in the program; all Head Start curricula and activities will continue as scheduled through the end of the school year.

MPS was notified by ACF that this decision was based on three program deficiencies that occurred between June 2022 and May 2024. MPS has worked diligently to correct issues identified and continues to work with Head Start to ensure future plans demonstrate the district’s commitment to meeting federal requirements.

MPS’ Head Start program is one of the longest-standing in Wisconsin. The district is proud of its work providing essential, high-quality, developmentally appropriate, early childhood programs to students, and of the support provided to families.
