MPD Officer Involved Shooting

MILWAUKEE, WI— On Sunday, March 24, 2024, at approximately 11:17 p.m., Milwaukee Police received several calls of shots fired in the 5400 block of N. 64th Street.

Several squads responded. Upon arrival, uniformed officers located an armed suspect who abruptly fled from officers on foot ignoring their lawful commands to stop. Officers pursued the armed suspect on foot and encountered him in the 6400 block of W. Sheridan Avenue. During the encounter, the suspect discharged his firearm at the officers at which time, multiple officers returned fire, subsequently striking the suspect several times.

The suspect, a 20-year-old Milwaukee man, sustained life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is in critical condition.

No officers or other members of the community were injured from the gunfire. The suspect’s firearm was recovered.

The three officers involved are a 24-year-old male with over 5 years of service, a 30-year-old male with over 6 years of service and a 34-year-old male with over 1-year of service. The officers were placed on administrative duty as is routine in officer involved shootings.

This incident is being investigated by the Milwaukee Area Investigative Team. The Wauwatosa Police Department is the lead agency.

The investigation is fluid and ongoing.
