The Marquette University men’s lacrosse team (2-2, 0-0 BIG EAST) continues their road trip on Saturday, Febuary 28 with a neutral site game against No. 6/4 Harvard (3-0, 0-0 Ivy) at Chaminade High School in Long Island, N.Y.  for a 11 a.m. CT matchup.

Last time out
Marquette earned a decisive 15–4 road victory over Detroit Mercy on Feb. 23, using a balanced offensive attack and stellar defense to control the game throughout. The Golden Eagles scored four goals in each of the first three quarters to build a commanding lead and never allowed the Titans to generate momentum, holding Detroit Mercy to its second-lowest goal total of the season.

Offensively, Nolan Rappis led the charge with his second straight game of five or more points, totaling three goals and two assists. Beau Westphal set a career high with four goals, while Tucker Mullen added three points (1g, 2a) and Carsen Brandt chipped in three as well (2g, 1a). Nine different Golden Eagles found the back of the net in the win. Defensively, Marquette was paced by Brady Nicholas with two caused turnovers and six ground balls, while Lucas Lawas and Jack Kask combined for 10 saves and a 71.4 percent save percentage in net.

History vs. Harvard
Saturday marks just the second-ever meeting between Marquette and Harvard. The first matchup came on March 1, 2025 in Cambridge, where the Golden Eagles fell 20–16 to the No. 13/12 Crimson. Carsen Brandt and Nolan Rappis each recorded five points in the contest, while Marquette controlled the faceoff battle 26–14 and held a 30–27 edge in shots on goal. The difference came in net, where Harvard owned a 14–7 advantage in saves.

Saturday will also be Marquette’s third-ever game against an Ivy League opponent. In addition to last year’s Harvard meeting, the Golden Eagles faced the Cornell in April 2023, falling 21–11 to the then-No. 7/6 ranked Big Red.

Scouting the Crimson
The Harvard men’s lacrosse team will be riding high down to Long Island this weekend after securing a 13-12 victory over No. 1 Syracuse last weekend. The win marked the Crimson’s first victory over a team ranked No. 1 in the national polls in program history.

Offensively, the Crimson are led by Teddy Malone, who in three games  has recorded 14 points and 11 goals. Despite only having one goal against Syracuse last weekend, Malone comes into Saturday ranked seventh nationally with 3.67 goals per game. Defensivley, sophomore goalie, Graham Stevens owns a  GAA of 8.00 to rank eighth in the nation.

Transfer adds early spark
With the Golden Eagles graduating its all-time points and goals leader, Bobby O’Grady, head coach Jake Richard looked to a mix of returning underclassmen and a key addition in junior attackman Tucker Mullen, a transfer from the University of Virginia. Mullen appeared in 12 games during his time at UVA, with his availability limited after undergoing open-heart surgery in 2023 following a diagnosis of coronary artery anomaly, a congenital condition that often goes undetected.

Coming out of high school, Mullen was rated the No. 55 overall prospect and No. 14 attackman nationally by Inside Lacrosse and earned Under Armour All-American honors. Now wearing No. 13 for MU, the same number worn by O’Grady, Mullen has made an immediate impact for Marquette, highlighted by a career-high four-point performance against Notre Dame in just his second game with the program.

ALL-TIME VS. TOP-20 TEAMS
Marquette has consistently challenged itself against nationally ranked competition since its inaugural 2013 season, playing 70 all-time games against Top-20 opponents and holding a 10–60 record in those matchups. The Golden Eagles opened the 2026 season against No. 20 Michigan, then played No. 6/7 Notre Dame and are scheduled to face three additional ranked teams this year, according to the USILA Week 3 Coaches’ Poll.

The program’s breakthrough against the Top-20 came during its historic 2016 season, when Marquette recorded three Top-20 wins, including victories over No. 16 Villanova and No. 1 Denver to capture its first BIG EAST Tournament title and earn its first NCAA Tournament appearance. Marquette’s last Top-20 win came on March 18, 2023, a 12–11 victory at No. 5 Penn State.

FOREVER GOLDEN EAGLES
On the evening of Friday, September 5th, men’s lacrosse student-athletes Noah Snyder and Scott Michaud passed away in a vehicular accident near campus.

Noah, a business administration student from Getzville, New York, was one of six children. Scott, a biomedical sciences major from Springboro, Ohio, was a goalie and is survived by two brothers. Both were standout students, earning BIG EAST All-Academic Team honors in their first year at Marquette. They were beloved members of the program whose leadership, positivity and commitment to their teammates left a lasting impact on the Marquette lacrosse family.

The Golden Eagles continue to honor their legacy, united in brotherhood and inspired to carry forward the standard they helped build. The team wears helmet decals and jersey patches, incorporates their jersey numbers into team-issued gear. Head coach Jake Richard was also gifted custom shoes featuring silhouettes of Noah and Scott. At the conclusion of every team huddle, one player or coach will call out 43, with the team responding 88, ensuring their presence remains part of everything the program does
