Mitchell Statement on Scott Walker Consideration of State Takeover of MPS
"We need to empower and ensure local control so that communities are the voice and driving force behind their unique wants and needs."
MADISON – Today, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mahlon Mitchell released the below statement following Scott Walker’s appearance on “UpFront with Mike Gousha” where he considered state takeover of Milwaukee Public Schools:
“Scott Walker single-handedly manufactured the crisis in our public school system by starving the budget and now, in an election year, is seemingly concerned. He continues to govern with policies that defy history and logic. State takeover of school districts isn’t about improving student outcomes; it’s about money, power and control.
We need to empower and ensure local control so that communities are the voice and driving force behind their unique wants and needs. There is no better advocate or representative than those at the local level to shoulder the responsibility of preparing our children for the future.”
