MILWAUKEE – Today, the Milwaukee Public Museum (MPM) announced that Katie Sanders has been named MPM’s first Chief Planning Officer (CPO). In her new role, Sanders, who previously served as Executive Director of Safe & Sound, will advance the museum’s overall strategic effort to build a 21st century museum of nature and culture for Milwaukee and Wisconsin.

“Katie’s leadership experience, excellent project management skills, and relationships throughout Milwaukee and the State will be a great asset to the museum,” said Dr. Ellen Censky, President and CEO of the Milwaukee Public Museum. “This is an exciting time for the museum as we continue to set our strategic vision for the museum’s future all while continuing to welcome visitors and conduct cutting-edge scientific research at our current location.”

As CPO, Sanders’ focus will be on the reimagination of the Milwaukee Public Museum, including coordinating exhibit and visitor experience planning, space planning, partnership exploration and coordination, planning and execution of lobbying efforts, public relations, building and construction planning and more.

“I am honored to be joining the Milwaukee Public Museum as Chief Planning Officer,” said Sanders. “MPM is a beloved institution in our Milwaukee community, and I look forward to working with the museum team to help in carrying out the vision for the future.”

Sanders received her bachelor’s and masters’ degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a certificate in business entrepreneurship from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s School of Continuing Education. Prior to joining Safe & Sound in 2013 as Development and Marketing Director, she served as Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations at Marquette University and Director of Development at Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra.

With all due respect, I hope her role is mostly financial/relational because there doesn’t seem to be a lot of nature/culture science or exhibit design experience in her background described here.
