Milwaukee Hosts Community Recovery Basketball Event with The Phoenix and Guest Speaker Vin Baker
Milwaukee, WI — On Saturday, January 24, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., The Phoenix will host a free community recovery basketball event at the Milwaukee Yard. The event is open to anyone in recovery or recovery-adjacent and focuses on connection, movement, and belonging.
The Milwaukee event is organized locally by Byron Thompson, who continues to expand accessible, inclusive recovery spaces in the region.
Former NBA player and recovery advocate Vin Baker will attend as a guest speaker. Baker will share his recovery story and speak candidly about what sustained recovery looks like beyond public milestones, focusing on the day-to-day work required to maintain stability and purpose.
“This event reflects what actually helps people stay connected to recovery,” said organizers. “Movement, honesty, and community matter more than perfection.”
The event is free to attend. Advance registration is encouraged.
