Milwaukee County Encourages Residents to be Prepared During Winter Weather Awareness Week

By - Nov 18th, 2025 11:37 am

MILWAUKEEMilwaukee County Executive David Crowley is proclaiming November 17 – 21 2025, Winter Weather Awareness Week in Milwaukee County, aligning with the statewide observance in Wisconsin. All residents are encouraged to take steps now to prepare their homes, vehicles and families for winter weather to stay safe in cold, snowy, and icy conditions.

“Milwaukee County is prepared to tackle winter weather when a storm hits, and we want to make sure our residents are ready, too,” said County Executive David Crowley. “Planning ahead helps ensure families have what they need to stay safe, warm, and healthy when our Wisconsin winter turns severe.”

The Milwaukee County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) works year-round to plan for emergencies, to coordinate with state and local partners, and ensure critical resources are available to protect the community during extreme winter conditions. The Milwaukee County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) treats and clears state and county roads of snow and ice during winter weather and is prepared to assist with road closures in extreme conditions.

“Keeping the community safe starts long before a disaster hits,” said OEM Director Cassandra Libal. “We work all year to refine emergency plans, to build partnerships, and to make sure that residents and visitors can access important resources when they need it most.”

How Residents Can Prepare

Milwaukee County will share information on its social media channels throughout the week to help residents prepare and stay informed and ready. Everyone is encouraged to take simple steps to stay safe all season long.
