Milwaukee County DHHS Seeks Grant Applicants for ‘Better Ways to Cope’ Projects
Funded with Opioid Settlement dollars, projects will focus on prevention, harm reduction, treatment and recovery
MILWAUKEE– Milwaukee County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is pleased to announce the extension of its “Better Ways To Cope” campaign to now include regranting Opioid Settlement Fund dollars to nonprofit and for-profit organizations to develop prevention, harm reduction, treatment, and recovery initiatives that focus on increasing access to information and resources to reduce opioid-related overdose deaths, preventing substance misuse disorder, and increasing healthy coping choices. “DHHS is committed to fostering collaboration and innovation to address the overdose crisis and substance use disorder facing our community. By funding transformative substance use prevention, harm reduction, treatment, and recovery projects, we believe we can make a difference in the lives of individuals affected by opioid addiction,” said Shakita LaGrant-McClain, DHHS Executive Director. “By regranting opioid settlement funds, we aim to increase access to life-saving resources and reduce the likelihood of overdose-related fatalities in our community.”
Since its inception in 2021, Better Ways To Cope has been instrumental in regranting substance abuse prevention funds to community-based programs. Leveraging this successful track record, Milwaukee County DHHS Behavioral Health Services is poised to further its impact by directing resources toward transformative initiatives aimed at tackling challenges related to the opioid epidemic.
Grant awards will be made in the following categories:
· Prevention—four awards for $200,000 each.
· Harm Reduction—four awards for $200,000 each.
· Treatment—four awards for $200,000 each.
· Recovery—three awards for $150,000 each.
The Better Ways To Cope grant application is now open and can be downloaded from BetterWaysToCope.org. Applications will be accepted until May 17, 2024. Awards will be announced June 28, 2024, and the projects will be executed between July 15, 2024 and December 31, 2025.
