Milwaukee County DHHS is Seeking Input on the Future of its Human Services Facility through the ‘Coggs Center Community Survey’
Residents are encouraged to take the survey and share their ideas for accessing human services
MILWAUKEE—Milwaukee County Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) has begun the planning phase to transform the site of the Marcia P. Coggs Human Services Center, 1220 W. Vliet Street, often referred to as the 12th and Vliet Street building, and is seeking input from the community on what types of services, in addition to the services currently offered, they would like to have available at this location. The goal is to develop a warm, welcoming, person-centered facility yards away from the new Mental Health Emergency Center, creating a human services campus to serve residents across Milwaukee County.
“We want to hear from members of the community about what their human services needs are and how we can provide a high quality customer experience,” said Shakita LaGrant-McClain, Director, DHHS. “The redevelopment of the Coggs Center site is an upstream investment in the county’s vision of achieving racial and health equity and becoming the healthiest county in the state. I encourage all Milwaukee County residents to share their ideas by taking the survey.”

“By addressing an individuals’ comprehensive needs, we want to improve individual and community health,” said David Muhammad, Deputy Director, DHHS. “Reimagining the Coggs Human Services Center will improve access to services that impact social determinants of health and attract community partners to fill in service gaps, and create economic investment in a community where 34% of families are below poverty.”
As part of the 2020-2025 DHHS Strategic Plan: Creating Health Communities, DHHS has integrated its Adult and Children’s services, creating two Systems of Care, and is implementing the No Wrong Door model of service delivery, connecting people to holistic services regardless what “door” they enter.
