Milwaukee County Democrats Pass Resolution Calling for the Abolition of ICE

Milwaukee, WI— March 11, 2026 — Members of the Democratic Party of Milwaukee County voted on Monday to rally around a resolution calling for the abolition of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), citing ongoing concerns about human rights, accountability, and the structure of federal immigration enforcement.

Resolution sponsor Shua Sanchez said the measure reflects growing concern among community members and Democratic activists about the role and conduct of the agency.

“We’ve all seen the abuses and the murders committed by ICE in the past year,” Sanchez said. “This isn’t a problem that can be fixed by reforms. The way ICE is legally structured, it operates as a domestic police force under total control by the president. It needs to be abolished completely and replaced by a non-militarized immigration enforcement system.”

Democratic Party of Milwaukee County Chair Brett Timmerman praised the vote and said the resolution demonstrates the local party’s commitment to justice and human rights.

“We are proud of the Democrats who have taken a strong stance against ICE and encourage more Democratic leaders to join the movement to abolish ICE,” Timmerman said. “We hope to inspire a wave of resolutions to be passed by other Democratic organizations around the state and across the country.”

Party leaders say the resolution is intended to signal strong local support for national efforts to rethink immigration enforcement policy and prioritize humane, accountable approaches to immigration administration.
