Milwaukee County Board Adopts O’Connor Resolution Affirming Commitment to Election Integrity, Support for Election Workers
MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors today unanimously adopted a resolution, authored by Supervisor Anne O’Connor and cosponsored by Supervisors Steven Shea (1st Vice Chair), Kathleen Vincent, Caroline Gómez-Tom, Felesia A. Martin, Shawn Rolland, Juan Miguel Martinez, Justin Bielinski, Leevan Roundtree Jr., Sky Z. Capriolo, Willie Johnson, Jr., and Priscilla E. Coggs-Jones (2nd Vice Chair) affirming Milwaukee County’s commitment to secure, accurate, accessible, and transparent elections while expressing support for election workers and opposing intimidation directed at election officials and voters. The measure was previously advanced unanimously by the Committee on Judiciary, Law Enforcement and General Services and received support from the League of Women Voters of Milwaukee County and All Voting Is Local during committee testimony.
“I want to thank my colleagues for their bipartisan support of this resolution and for reaffirming Milwaukee County’s commitment to elections that are transparent, accessible, and worthy of the public’s trust,” said Supervisor Anne O’Connor. “Our election officials, municipal clerks, poll workers, election inspectors, and volunteers dedicate countless hours to ensuring every lawful vote is counted according to Wisconsin law. They deserve our gratitude and the ability to carry out their responsibilities free from harassment or intimidation. Today’s action sends a clear message that Milwaukee County stands with the public servants who administer our elections with professionalism and integrity.”
The resolution follows reports that a representative of the Federal Bureau of Investigation visited the private residence of the Milwaukee County Elections Director while seeking information related to the 2020 presidential election. County Clerk George Christenson has stated that the 2020 election in Milwaukee County was conducted lawfully and transparently and that its results have been upheld through recounts, audits, and court proceedings.
In addition to expressing support for election workers, the resolution encourages eligible Milwaukee County residents to verify their voter registration, understand their voting options, and participate confidently in upcoming elections. Information about voter registration, absentee voting, polling locations, and election dates is available through the Milwaukee County Election Commission.
The resolution now heads to the desk of County Executive David Crowley.
