Milwaukee Community Sailing Center to Host FREE Water Safety Expo Wednesday, May 25 from 4 to 7:30 PM

(MILWAUKEE WISCONSIN May16, 2022) – The Milwaukee Community Sailing Center invites individuals and families to attend a FREE afternoon/evening learning and interacting with boating and water safety partners in our community. Wisconsinites love to enjoy time on the water on our lakes and rivers either on beaches or on watercraft. At our water safety expo presented by CBS 58, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about rules and laws governing our waterways as well as understand what to do in the event of an emergency for yourself, family or others. Representatives will be on hand to talk with individuals and families one-on-one or join us for several informative demonstrations and seminars. It all takes place at the Sailing Center at the very end of Lagoon Drive in Veterans Park with plenty of free parking.

Organizations attending our 2022 expo include:

CBS 58 WEATHER TEAM Join CBS 58 Chief Meteorologist Drew Burgoyne at 6 pm for a seminar regarding “Wisconsin Severe Weather” and what you need to do to prepare for a storm if you are on the water or in your home.

MILWAUKEE FIRE DEPARTMENT – FIRE BOAT TRIDENT Watch as the Milwaukee Fire Department demonstrates the features of their versatile watercraft and interact with these first responders right on the Sailing Center dock.

WISCONSIN DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES Get the latest information regarding all variety of watercraft from sailboats to kayaks, paddle boards and everything in between. Find out answers to your questions about fishing and hunting licenses and maybe some tips about local hot spots.

MILWAUKEE COMMUNITY SAILING CENTER Learn about rules and laws governing the use of life preservers. Find out about the various options available for children and families and get fitted properly by a MCSC volunteer.

MILWAUKEE BEACH AMBASSADORS Learn about having a fun outing on the beach this summer. Discover things you need to know when entering the water on one of Milwaukee’s beaches from water quality to dangerous rip currents and how to help save yourself or someone at the beach.

AMERICAN RED CROSS Ask disaster and aquatic related questions and learn more about how you can donate blood.

MILWAUKEE WATER COMMONS Information will be available regarding programs design to create safer and more equitable access to our water spaces.

MILWAUKEE RIVERKEEPER Learn about public access points along rivers in Milwaukee and Ozaukee Counties and along the Lake Michigan shoreline for non-motorized boats. Find out how to navigate water quality information on the Swim Guide app.

MILWAUKEE METROPOLITAN SEWAGE DISTRICT Learn more about water quality and how it effects public health.
