Mentors guide, share advice to advance small business growth and prosperity
SCORE Southeast Wisconsin welcomes five business professionals
MILWAUKEE – Julie Savitt of Lake Geneva grew up in a family of entrepreneurs, and was heavily influenced by her grandfather, Maury Young, who launched his career as a developer when he was 40 years old, and worked with the City of Chicago. She, too, became owner and president of a business at age 40, AMS Elite Solutions, Inc., a transportation company and material supplier in northern Illinois.
“I believe my grandfather instilled in me a “can do” work ethic,” says Savitt. “I’ve been informally mentoring business owners since 2010, helping them improve their organization, operations, procedures, and employee accountability. It is, therefore, important for me to nurture an environment that will empower people to learn, grow and give back.”
Savitt is among five new certified mentors with SCORE Southeast Wisconsin, a non-profit organization that provides free mentors like her to coach startups and existing small businesses to better run, transform and grow their companies, especially critical in these economic times.
Mentor Larry Baab is a leadership expert for consumer durable-goods companies in manufacturing and industrial, retail and wholesale trade. He’s currently group vice-president and global GM for the sporting goods company, Johnson Outdoors, in Racine.
“My track record includes improving values of companies by transforming cultures into customer and growth-driven teams providing greater strategic value, with significant operating and financial improvements,” says Baab.
Sam Bravo is a SCORE mentor, accountant, advisor and entrepreneur who is a tax advisor for Compass Tax Advisors in Milwaukee.
“I help small businesses implement their start-up plans, daily accounting operations, and targeted growth in retail, transportation, healthcare, banking and financial services, and more.”
SCORE mentor John Lindbloom of Waterford is a computer consultant with expertise in technology, accounting, employee acquisition, business expansion and marketing.
“My experience extends to many areas,” says Lindbloom, “including home rehab and flipping, manufacturing, retail sales, a fine arts theater, non-profits, travel industry agencies and schools, property acquisition and management, nursing home operations, and business and computer consulting.”
Brian Alves is a SCORE mentor from Milwaukee and a group manager of global product marketing at Milwaukee Tool.
“My work in various sales roles, new product development and delivery, and product marketing broadens my ability to counsel on strategic planning, understanding customer needs, internal process improvement, change management, onboarding employees, setting goals and delivering on them.”
