Media Reports Mayor Johnson Proposes 20% Pay Increase For Himself and 15% Increase For Common Council
Milwaukee, WI: Mayoral Candidate David D. King responds to proposed pay increase for the office of the Mayor, the Common Council Members, and other top Milwaukee officials.
According to the website, Zappia, the average salary in Milwaukee is $40,000. Under the Mayor’s proposal, his salary would increase$22,100 to $169,436.12. Common Council members’ salaries would be raised by about $11,000 to $84,205.58 annually.
When Milwaukee is losing population, crime is surging, and roads are undrivable, is this really a time for the leadership of Milwaukee to accept or even think they have earned a pay increase?
When the average family in Milwaukee struggles with putting food on the table, meeting rising housing costs, and having concerns for their safety, this proposal is not acceptable and shows the disconnect of Mayor Johnson from the average resident in the city.
As Mayor, I will reign in costs, make sure money is used for city services, and I will be answerable to the needs of the citizens of Milwaukee.”

Real leaders lead, pretenders let others do their dirty work.
On the heels of a big tax increase the public did not want, along comes the “mayor” with this proposal for huge salary jumps for City Hall insiders. He would get $22,000/year more. Can you raise your salary like that?
After months of wailing about fiscal disaster without new taxes, taxes that harm those who can afford them least, the MAGA Republicans granted their wish. Now the professional politicians with no shame want huge raises. What work have they done that merits huge raises? I do not consider groveling before Republicans in the legislature work worthy of big raises. Or a lack of accountability that has become a hallmark of Milwaukee government. The same people that put Milwaukee into a fiscal crisis now want big raises.
They want you to suffer while they live high on the hog at the City Hall gravy train. Sharing the pain they caused is something they have no interest in. The hubris of these folks is mind-boggling. The message they are sending is the people are just wallets for them to plunder. They hammer us with taxes they know we do not want and then turn around and cry about needing big raises. That is not leadership. It is exploitation.
The new salaries are not excessive.
This is outrageous!!! They raised the extra tax just to give themselves a raise! Shameful!!!
