Mayoral Candidate David D. King Responds to the Milwaukee Police Department Report On Crime

By - Jan 25th, 2024 11:57 am

According to the Milwaukee Police Department, communities are seeing mixed results concerning crime in the city.

The numbers are not an anomaly but are following a nationwide trend.  We are thankful for the drop in crime and hope it continues. Recently we asked someone associated with the former Office of Violence Prevention (now called the Office of Community Wellness and Safety) who confronted us, what specifically the city or OVP did to contribute to the encouraging numbers they pushed.  They had no answers.

According to The Hill News Website, Milwaukee is the 9th most dangerous city in the US, with a Crime Cost Per Capita of $7,029.  One way to save the city money is to reduce crime.

Here are very troubling truths, in 2019 there were 98 homicides in Milwaukee, Cavalier Johnson became President of the Common Council in 2020 and that number rose to 190, and in 2021, 197. When Johnson became mayor in 2022, the city hit an all-time high of 224 homicides.

Statistics can tell a story, but the truth that can’t be denied is that people who live in Milwaukee don’t feel safe in their neighborhoods or even sitting on their porches.  People who live outside the city are nervous and afraid about visiting the city because of the high crime.

My administration will be committed to making Milwaukee safer, starting with instructing the City Attorney to relitigate the Collins Agreement allowing the Police to do their jobs, and making sure every neighborhood is protected and as safe as possible.

David D. King is a candidate for Mayor of Milwaukee running on a common sense platform empowering the citizens of Milwaukee to work together to actually solve the issues facing us.
