MILWAUKEE — Marquette University President Michael R. Lovell announced today that the university’s Time to Rise campaign has surpassed $500 million in funds raised toward its $750 million goal.

In reaching the milestone less than a year since the public campaign launch last spring, President Lovell thanked alumni, parents and friends and emphasized recent fundraising momentum.

“Grounded in our Catholic, Jesuit faith, we continue to deepen our mission and thrive thanks to the immense generosity of our Marquette family across the world,” President Lovell said. “Our close-knit community has risen to every challenge. Together, we are building a culture where Marquette alumni, parents and friends proudly give back as women and men for and with others.”

Time to Rise is the most ambitious campaign in Marquette’s 140-year history. More than 51,000 donors have given to the campaign, with more than 22,000 of these donors (43%) making their first-ever gift to Marquette. Building on its founding mission to provide an accessible education, the Time to Rise campaign has generated more than $215 million in scholarship funds — a top campaign priority.

“Our generous supporters are strengthening our tradition of excellence and helping to write the next chapters in the story of Marquette,” said Vice President for Advancement Tim McMahon. “Time to Rise is a campaign for everyone that has the power to create a Marquette culture of giving for generations.”

Beyond scholarships, Time to Rise is supporting campaign objectives by enriching and expanding student opportunities, supporting our teacher-scholars, fostering university-wide innovation and continuing to transform Marquette’s campus environment.

Nearly 600 donors have committed $100,000 or greater during the campaign, including more than 100 donors who have gifted $1 million or greater.

In his letter to the Marquette community, President Lovell highlighted the leadership of National Campaign Co-chairs Chuck and Karen Swoboda and Mary Ellen and Dr. Scott Stanek, saying they “have embodied servant leadership while spearheading our volunteer efforts.” The National Campaign Co-Chairs direct Marquette’s worldwide network of campaign committee leaders.

“Our drive to create an unstoppable philanthropic movement has never been stronger,” President Lovell said. “We will embrace the work ahead of us to raise the remaining $250 million in funds and are enthused for the impact it will bring.”
