MILWAUKEE — The Office of Engagement and Inclusion at Marquette University will host the 2021 Justice in Action Conference in a virtual format from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 27.

The conference aims to help participants explore their roles in service, community and social change, especially in the context of a Jesuit institution.

The conference includes presentations from 19 speakers. Creative change agent Dasha Kelly Hamilton will deliver the keynote address. Hamilton is an author, performance artist, curator and facilitator who leverages the creative process toward human and social wellness. Hamilton also established the nonprofit Still Waters Collective, which has supported literary arts programming for 20 years, creating platforms for thousands of voices to be honored and heard.

For more information about Hamilton and the other conference presenters, visit the 2021 Conference Presenters page.

The conference will focus on three major themes, broken out into separate sessions: justice, action and engagement.

The justice sessions will raise awareness of the historical foundations of marginalization, address how the justice system disenfranchises people at a disproportionate rate and how that impacts society as a whole.

The action sessions will showcase key strategies and skills to counter injustices. The sessions provide a variety of action steps to further education, advocate for community organizations and fight for true justice.

The engagement sessions will inform attendees how nonprofits and other organizations interact with their communities, as well as the role they play in upholding or challenging intersecting issues.

A full schedule is available on the Justice in Action Conference Schedule page.

Registration for the conference is free and available online. Registration closes Wednesday, Feb. 24. Registrants will be provided a link to the virtual conference via email.
