MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men’s golf team is headed to Atkins Golf Club in Urbana, Illinois for its sixth NCAA Regional appearance on May 12-14.

Play begins on Monday, May 12 with 8 a.m. Central time tee time on No. 1 and an 8:30 a.m. start on the back nine. Play begins at the same time off Nos. 1 and 10 on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

Admission and parking are free to all fans for the duration of the event and live scoring is available through Scoreboard powered by Clippd.

Marquette enters NCAA action as the eighth-seeded team in the Urbana Regional at No. 47 in the Scoreboard Division I Men’s College Golf Rankings. Oklahoma State (No. 2), North Carolina (No. 10) and Illinois (No. 14) are the top three seeded teams in the region, while Texas Tech, Long Beach State, UNLV and Houston are all between Nos. 23-38.

The low five teams and low individual not on the qualifying team from each of the six NCAA regional sites advance to compete at the NCAA Championship on the North Course at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California on May 23-28.

The Golden Eagles won the 2025 BIG EAST Conference Men’s Golf Championship on April 26-28 to earn the league’s automatic berth into the regional after a record-setting campaign. MU won at Callawassie Island by 11 strokes over runner-up Xavier and its 21 par-or-better rounds this year are six better than the previous team record of 15 notched in 2021-22.

Marquette won five team championships during 2024-25 and its 283.29 per round scoring average is the best mark in program history. That scoring mark stands as -1.74 strokes-to-par per round, shattering the previous program record of 1.00 from 2021-22. Those are the only two marks in MU history under 2.00 strokes-to-par per round.

The Golden Eagles are led by the BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year (Steve Bailey, Jordan Niebrugge and Josh Robinson), a pair of seniors in BIG EAST Player of the Year Patrick Adler and four-time all-conference selection Max Lyons, and two other all-league picks in Johan Widal and Vincent Cervantes, the conference freshman of the year.

Lyons, Adler and Widal have three of the best single season scoring averages in program history, and Lyons (70.71; -0.55 per round) is second only to former MU All-American Mike Van Sickle. Adler won two events during the fall campaign and his 11-under 202 to win the Windon Memorial Classic at Conway Farms on Sept. 29-30 is one of the best performances in Marquette history.

Sophomore Mason Schmidtke rounds out MU’s starting five, while classmate Ryan Banas is the alternate. Schmidtke played a pivotal role late this season with a 5-under 67 in the first round of BIG EAST play and his 72.18 scoring average (+0.89) is fourth on MU. Banas, a high school teammate of Adler’s at Loyola Academy, competed as part of MU’s lineup in the first nine events this academic year.

Marquette Lineup:

  1. Max Lyons
  2. Patrick Adler
  3. Johan Widal
  4. Vincent Cervantes
  5. Mason Schmidtke
    Alternate: Ryan Banas

The best team finish for a Marquette squad in regional action was in 2019 when the Golden Eagles placed eighth out of 14 teams at UT Golf Club in Austin, Texas. MU was led that year by Hunter Eichhorn in a tie for 18th with a 3-over 216. The best finish for any MU player in a regional was Mike Van Sickle in 2007 (17th) and Max Lyons (T-17th) during Marquette’s last regional appearance in 2023. Matt Murlick‘s 1-over 217 in 2018 is the lowest score to par for a MU player.

Marquette 2024-25 Notables:
