MILWAUKEE… To develop their own unique voice, artists are always finding new ways to express themselves. New Growth showcases recent creative developments from visual and spoken word artists.

The exhibition features a stunning variety of art from painting and sculpture to jewelry and textiles created by more than 50 local artists. The visual impact runs the gamut from abstract to realistic, and from highly expressive to provocatively studied.

Join us for the Opening Reception, April 29, 6 – 11 p.m. at the Art*Bar, where we will toast to this year’s creative NEW GROWTH! Performances by Deolinda Abstrac & Kj Prodigy begin at 7 p.m., followed by an awards ceremony to honor five selected artists at 7:30 p.m. Awards will be juried by Graeme Reid, Director of Collections/Exhibitions at the Museum of Wisconsin Art.

Destinny Fletcher, also known as Deolinda Abstrac, is a woman with the power to create peace within her community and culture through the phenomenon in her voice. Art becomes her sound and her greatest enigma.

KJ Prodigy is a Harambee-Milwaukee, home-grown performance artist of avant-garde poetry. He performs with energy, and is highly expressive and creative.

The event also features the ART PARTY CART Raffle, the Burgermeister Food Truck, live music from the Jennifer Hall Band, and a cash bar.

Enter the ART PARTY CART Raffle and win an entire shopping cart filled with wine and other liquors, party accessories, coffee-table art books, a painting by Jeanne Olivieri, and a print by John Kowalczyk. Tickets will be on sale at MARN (in Material Studios + Gallery, 207 E. Buffalo St., #600) Monday, Wednesday and Friday, April 25 – 29, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., and at the New Growth Opening Reception at 3 tickets for $5 or 15 tickets for $20.

The exhibition was organized by the Milwaukee Artist Resource Network and features the work of 30 active MARN members.

Special thanks to American Deposit Management Company, Fine Art Montage, Burgermeister Gourmet Food Truck, and the Art*Bart for generously sponsoring New Growth, a MARN exhibition!
