Marisabel Cabrera Issues Policy Position on Public Education
Focus to be placed on public dollars for public schools, private school accountability
MILWAUKEE – Marisabel Cabrera, Democratic candidate for the 9th Assembly district, today issued the following statement regarding her policy position on public education in the state of Wisconsin:
“As a member of the state Assembly and representative to the people of the 9th district, my position on public education will always be clear. I believe that public dollars should go to public schools. For too long we have seen public schools be stripped of funding and resources at the cost of teachers and students.
“Private schools can exist, but should be self-sustained and funded by private means, not by public taxpayer dollars. Additionally, private schools, if wanting to operate anywhere in the state, need to be held to the same standard as any public school and held accountable in the event of wrongdoing.
“I, along with my Democratic colleagues, will stand firm in the belief that public schools need to be adequately funded, properly staffed, and given the opportunity to succeed rather than gutted, stripped, and sold.
“I look forward to working with all members of the state Assembly to ensure that all public schools, and Milwaukee Public Schools in particular, successfully usher in the next generation of our brightest achievers.”
Marisabel Cabrera is a private-practice immigration attorney, a member of Milwaukee’s Fire and Police Commission, chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin‘s Latino Caucus, and is a candidate for Wisconsin’s 9th Assembly district in the Democratic primary election to be held August 9, 2016.
