March Local Employment and Unemployment Data Released
MADISON – The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development today released the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates of employment and unemployment statistics for metropolitan areas, major cities, and counties in Wisconsin for March 2024.
In brief, the nonseasonally adjusted data for Wisconsin shows:
- Metropolitan Statistical Areas: Preliminary March 2024 unemployment rates increased or stayed the same in all 12 Wisconsin metro areas over the month; rates increased in all 12 areas over the year.
- Municipalities: Preliminary March 2024 unemployment rates increased or stayed the same in 33 of Wisconsin’s 35 largest cities over the month; rates increased or stayed the same in 34 cities over the year.
- Counties: Preliminary March 2024 unemployment rates decreased in 24 counties, increased in 41 counties, and stayed the same in seven counties over the month. Over the year, rates decreased or stayed the same in 11 counties and increased in the remaining 61 counties.
