Literacy Services Of Wisconsin Celebrates 60 Years Of Advancing Adult Education
MILWAUKEE – On May 1, Literacy Services of Wisconsin (LSW) commemorated 60 years of advancing adult education with the organization’s annual fundraising gala themed Literacy Rocks, celebrating peace, love and literacy.
“This isn’t just about literacy; it’s about economic mobility, dignity, and breaking cycles of low literacy,” said LSW Executive Director Holly McCoy. “When we support adult learners, we uplift entire families and change generations. We’ve witnessed firsthand how determination fuels transformation – our learners navigate barriers while balancing jobs, raising children, and managing daily demands. Yet they show up, committed to creating better futures.”
Since opening its doors, LSW has served more than 30,000 adults, building its legacy on the belief that literacy is more than a skill – it is a right that fosters opportunity, strengthens families, and uplifts entire communities. Soon to begin serving students at a new headquarters in Milwaukee’s Brewers Hill neighborhood in May, LSW is an advocate for education and economic mobility.
The central element of the fundraiser was a series of community awards and inspiring stories that celebrated the integral supporters impacting LSW, including volunteers and community partners.
Additionally, three scholarship winners, chosen by current and past students, were awarded a total of $6,000 to commemorate 60 years. Two recipients received $1,500 each, while one outstanding student was granted $3,000, supporting their ongoing higher education journeys and highlighting the strong impact LSW has in the lives of students.
