League of Women Voters presents “Impacts of Abortion Restrictions” forum Oct. 2

Milwaukee – The League of Women Voters of Milwaukee County presents a public forum titled “Dire Consequences: Impacts of Abortion Restrictions / A focus on Wisconsin” on Oct. 2, 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. The forum will be held at NŌ STUDIOS , 1037 W. McKinley Ave., Milwaukee. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Register here. The forum will be live streamed at No Studios

In recent years, laws restricting access to reproductive healthcare and abortion have imperiled women’s lives, health and fertility. Maternal deaths have increased, especially for Black women.The Reproductive Rights Committee of the League of Women Voters of Milwaukee County presents this public issues forum to learn more about this critical issue from medical and legal experts.

Reproductive Rights Committee Co-Chair Dr. Charlene Gaebler-Uhing, M.D., MHPE Adolescent Medicine Physician (retired), said, “Many individuals are unaware that the U.S. maternal mortality rate has been rapidly increasing since 2019 and our rate is five to six times higher than other developed countries. Black women are three times more likely to die than white women during pregnancy and immediate postpartum period. This forum will address why we have such high rates, why Black women are disproportionately impacted and what can be done to reverse these trends.”
