Karrie Kozlowski, Thomas Harland and Natalie Grehn decline forum invitation

On January 29th the Waukesha Public Library invited all six candidates for the Waukesha School Board to a Candidate Forum sponsored by the Waukesha Public Library to be facilitated by the League of Women Voters Milwaukee County. The event was proposed for Tuesday, March 4th, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. Although they were given multiple date options, three candidates—Karrie Kozlowski, Thomas Harland, and Natalie Grehn— declined the invitation to participate.

A statement released by Karrie Kozlowksi on her campaign Facebook page characterizes the League of Women Voters as “an openly left-leaning group with zero experience into public school governance.” The League of Women Voters of Milwaukee County is a non-partisan organization whose mission is “to advocate for informed and active participation in government”.

Transparency and public discourse is essential for local government. Therefore, we have committed to attend every event we are invited to, talk to every voter, and answer every question– regardless of political affiliation or identity of a group or individual. Kozlowski, Harland, and Grehn declined to make that same commitment, refusing to appear at this public forum. This underscores their history of lack of transparency within the community. We are committed to bringing new leadership to the Waukesha School Board that is transparent, accountable, and able to answer tough questions no matter the setting. We formally invite the other candidates to collaborate with us to schedule a public forum where voters can learn more about all of the candidates and make an informed choice for the Waukesha School Board on April 1st.

Samuel D’Amico, Stephanie Fidlin, and Angelique Byne have accepted the invitation to the Candidate Forum sponsored by the Waukesha Public Library and facilitated by the LWVMC. We encourage all voters to attend on March 4th from 6:30pm- 8:00pm to get answers to important questions facing our district in the upcoming April 1st election.

the league of women voters is a non-partisan organization that is interested in voters and the continuation of our democracy where voters can freely vote. people like ms.kozlowski really want to discredit and politicize non-partisan organizations for their own benefit. i find it interesting that if one is supportive of our democracy and voters’ rights, then they are obviously “left leaning”. how did that happen??????
